Emerald Ash Borer Treatment and Control

Professional Land clearing contractor, servicing southern ontario

Treatments for the now-infamous Emerald Ash Borer are most effective when used early on. This is only possible if you notice signs of the insect infestation and deal with the pests right away. The disease they cause, on the other hand, is much more difficult to detect, and by the time you realize there’s a problem, it’s usually too late for tree tree.

The Emerald Ash Borer (Agrilus planipennis) is a glossy emerald green beetle that measures 1/2 inch in length and 1/16 inch in width. It has a round abdomen and a flat back, and has become the bane of tree lovers and property owners since the early 2000’s when they were first detected.

Here are some of the warning signs that you might have an Emerald Ash Borer in your canopy:

  • On the branches and trunk, D-shaped exit holes (approximately 1/8 inch in diameter)
  • On some branches or throughout the tree, the foliage is wilting and/or yellowing.
  • Woodpeckers create jagged holes while attempting to extract larvae from the tree.
  • Above the larval feeding galleries, there is a vertical split or cracked bark
  • Thinning of the canopy and branch dieback that starts in the upper third of the tree.
  • A large number of shoots that emerge from the tree’s dead parts, usually near the base.
  • Under the bark, there are distinct serpentine shaped galleries packed with excrement.

Toronto is expected to lose almost all of its 860,000 ash trees to the deadly emerald ash borer over the next few years. The problem is much worse in areas where there is a greater concentration of these trees. The only way to maintain the right ecological balance is to intervene early and plant more trees to replace the ones that have died.

Rayzor Edge has the knowledge and experience to effectively treat and control Emerald Ash Borers.

  • Treatments that are timely, effective, and less expensive than tree removal.
  • Prevent the disease from spreading to healthy trees on your property and in the surrounding area by taking preventative measures.
  • Trees that are dead or unable to be saved should be removed and disposed of responsibly.
  • Trees that are better suited to their location and your needs should be replaced.
